Lauenstein Department of Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology and Neuroradiology, University Hospital Essen, Essen, Germany Introduction: Colorectal cancer, which arises mostly from preexisting adenomatous polyps, continues to be the second most common cancer (1). The impact of existing colonic screening techniques strongly depends on the according patients’ acceptance (2). MR-colonography (MRC), based on the acquisition of 3D magnetic resonance data sets, permits accurate detection of colonic polyps with a diameter >7mm (3). Recently developed MRC techniques based on the tagging of fecal material allow for the visualization of colorectal lesions without prior bowel cleansing. Aim of this study was to compare virtual MR colonography (MRC) to optical colonoscopy (OC) regarding patients’ acceptance in a screening population.

Sigmoid Perforation during CT Colonography in a Patient with an Inguinal Hernia and Concomitant Finding of a Right-Sided Colon Cancer
The use of computed tomography colonography or virtual colonography (VC) is gaining acceptance as a screening modality for colon cancer. A comprehensive understanding of VC complications is limited. We report a case of colon perforation in a patient where a colon cancer was diagnosed using VC colonography with manual insufflation. A 79-year-old patient underwent a VC after a failed screening op...
متن کاملComputed tomographic virtual colonoscopy computer-aided polyp detection in a screening population.
BACKGROUND & AIMS The sensitivity of computed tomographic (CT) virtual colonoscopy (CT colonography) for detecting polyps varies widely in recently reported large clinical trials. Our objective was to determine whether a computer program is as sensitive as optical colonoscopy for the detection of adenomatous colonic polyps on CT virtual colonoscopy. METHODS The data set was a cohort of 1186 s...

OBJECTIVES The purpose of our study was to report the results of the implementation of computed tomography colonography in a university hospital setting serving a Brazilian population at high risk of colorectal cancer. METHODS After creating a computed tomography colonography service in our institution, 85 patients at high risk of colorectal cancer underwent computed tomography colonography f...
متن کاملAt what costs will screening with CT colonography be competitive? A cost-effectiveness approach.
The costs of computed tomographic colonography (CTC) are not yet established for screening use. In our study, we estimated the threshold costs for which CTC screening would be a cost-effective alternative to colonoscopy for colorectal cancer (CRC) screening in the general population. We used the MISCAN-colon microsimulation model to estimate the costs and life-years gained of screening persons ...
متن کاملThe challenges of CT colonography reimbursement.
CT colonography has been shown to be an effective method to screen for colorectal cancer. However, at present, full endorsement and reimbursement for screening CT colonography, particularly by the US Preventive Services Task Force and CMS, respectively, are absent, so this screening option is infrequently used, and optical colonoscopy remains the de facto standard screening option. The authors ...
